BASIC TRANSMUTATION - ALIEN/MIGRATION

An eucalyptus, an alien, a migrant, a slave, a transplanted, an isolated being.

choreographic installation, publication

Distillers and other glass objects, aluminium structure, percolator, PVC tubing, wire, heating mantles, water and air pumps, plexiglass aquariums, hydrophones and contact microphones.

Eucalyptus is a plant species native to Australia that now lives in more than 80 countries. It possesses all the tricks to grow in poor and difficult soils: it is made to survive.

Eucalyptus is one of the species most widely used by the paper industry and, in the great game of "greenwashing," it is chosen to plant "carbon credit" forests in countries such as Brazil. Like any monoculture, it ends up radically reducing biodiversity wherever it spreads.

We have placed it almost everywhere on Earth, far from its native Australia, where no Aboriginal person, when integrating it into their arts, medicines and rituals, would think of calling it the tree of capitalism.

By its very presence, every landscape shifts from local to global. In the middle of this dystopia, we decide that this tree is our ally in the desire to joyfully rearrange reality, to continue living and to find together other ways of breathing.
