This installation recreates the average temperature and humidity conditions of Cuyabeno.

In the summer of 2019, while the world's screens were filled with images of fires in the Amazon rainforest, I conducted an exercise in observing lichens around Cuyabeno Lagoon in the Ecuadorian Amazon. I focused on the margins, on the small, placing my body at ground level, away from the trunk.

This anti-garden does not seek to domesticate the tropics or create a climatic theatre containing a nature stripped of its mystery — unveiled, marvellous, and above all, useful to commerce and science. Far from this colonial project, it proposes listening to the climate with the skin and allowing oneself to be affected by the light coloured by lichen landscapes.

An anti-garden for moving slowly, choosing alliances, exchanging benefits, mutating, bastardising, and producing transformative fluids that neither you nor I can generate separately. A cave where perhaps we can practise counter-colonial witchcraft and fight without fear, just in case everything starts to burn.
